Data Space

Data Space

In short: A data space is an ecosystem where organizations can share data more easily due to pre-agreed technical, legal, and business arrangements.

From the 'Design principles for data spaces' position paper:

  • A data space is an ecosystem where organizations can share data more easily due to pre-agreed technical, legal, and business arrangements.
  • Unlike traditional data sharing, which often relies on bilateral contracts or centralized data hubs, data spaces operate on a decentralized model. This means there is no single location where all data is stored. Instead, each participant retains control over their own data and decides how and with whom it is shared.
